Mr. Reid is our Chief Representative in China and is located in our Shanghai office
Mr. Reid, a qualified attorney (New South Wales, Australia), previously worked in the Hong Kong office of the international law firm Mallesons Stephen Jaques where he advised major international corporations on their investments and joint venture activities in China across a diverse range of industries including: mining, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, financial services and telecommunication industries. Mr. Reid also advised large China based private and state owned enterprises on their outbound investments and capital raisings.
Mr. Reid has also worked in the Hong Kong office of the Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands (BVI) law firm Maples and Calder where he advised major international institutional, financial and corporate clients (including both listed companies and private equity funds) on the BVI and Cayman Islands aspects of fund formation, debt finance, capital raisings and merger and acquisition activities in China and the Asia Pacific region.
Mr. Reid speaks fluent Mandarin and can read and write Chinese having studied Mandarin for over 10 years. In 2001, Mr. Reid was the recipient of the prestigious Chinese Ministry of Education Scholarship to study at Tsinghua University in Beijing where he spent 12 months studying Mandarin. Mr. Reid was also the recipient of a second scholarship to study Mandarin at the Haerbin Institute of Technology, in Heilongjiang province during 2000.
Prior to relocating to Hong Kong, Mr Reid worked as a solicitor in the commercial department of Australian law firm Moray and Agnew Solicitors, in the Newcastle office. During that time, Mr Reid also gained practical commercial and regulatory experience by working as the Legal Officer of the National Stock Exchange of Australia. As a graduate Mr Reid served as Tipstaff to Justice R. McColl, AO in the New South Wales Supreme Court, Court of Appeal.
